Denver Immersive Opera has announced the regional premiere of Kate Soper’s Here Be Sirens, in which Angela Mitchell will appear as Polyxo. Featuring three sopranos and prepared piano, the work blends beautiful music, terrifying noise, screwball comedy, and Aristotelian tragedy to present the mythological sirens as real beings, invested in their own origins and obsessed with the possibility of escape from the tedium of endless irresistible desire.

Following its 2014 premiere in New York, the New York Times’ Anthony Tommasini described the work as “inspired and strangely powerful…no one interested in smudging the boundaries of contemporary opera and theater should miss it.” The Wall Street Journal called it “audacious, genre-bending music theatre.”

The production is a collaboration with the University of Denver Lamont School of Music, where Ms. Mitchell is pursuing a performance certificate and also serves on staff as recruiter. She will appear in the March 22 (3pm) and March 28 (7pm) performances.
