Premiering New Opera Scenes

Angela Mitchell will perform in Cleveland Opera Theater's New Opera Works {NOW} Festival, a collaboration with the Cleveland Composers Guild.  The “New Works Gallery” workshop will feature selections and scenes from new operas by Guild members. Works were selected via a blind submission process and will be performed with chamber orchestra.

Angela will be showcased in the premieres of scenes from two operas: Voice of the Lake by Margaret Brouwer and Remembering the Pines by Nicholas Underhill. 

There are two performances: Friday, January 20 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 22 at 3:00 p.m.
Both shows take place in Fynette Kulas Recital Hall at Baldwin Wallace University, 49 Seminary Street in Berea, Ohio. 

Returning to the Akron Symphony

Angela Mitchell will return to the Akron Symphony to serve as host and song leader for a pair of concerts entitled "Link Up: The Orchestra Rocks." In partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, Link Up pairs orchestras across the country with schools in their local communities. It’s a highly participatory program that invites students to learn about orchestral repertoire through a yearlong, hands-on music curriculum.

Quire Cleveland featured in BBC Music Magazine

Quire Cleveland, the ensemble with which Angela Mitchell sings, has been featured in the Winter edition of BBC Music Magazine. The ensemble's upcoming "Carols for Quire" program is #2 on the list of "20 Live Events for Christmas in North America."

Quire Cleveland, a professional chamber choir founded in 2008, has already made its mark with its annual 'Carols for Quire' programme. The ensemble will offer familiar carols, several lesser-known Spanish Christmas songs and a setting of the hymn Conditor alme siderum in the Mohawk Indian language, newly reconstructed by Quire Cleveland's artistic director, Ross Duffin. 

Appearing as host and performer in Concert Across America

CLEVELAND, OH – The Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence (OCAGV) has announced its participation in the nationwide Concert Across America to End Gun Violence. The performance will take place on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at U.S. Bank Plaza in Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland. Performers include musicians from The Cleveland Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, Cleveland Institute of Music, Classical Revolution Cleveland, In2ative, and Quire Cleveland. The program will feature a mix of classical and popular selections. It will be hosted by Jeff Kurkjian, host of “The Jeff Show” on Q104, and Angela Mitchell, host/announcer for WCLV Classical 104.9. Both hosts will also be performing on the program. Ms. Mitchell is a board member of the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence and is organizing the event. The concert is free, though donations to OCAGV will be accepted. 

This is one of the more than 250 concerts to be held across the U.S., each connected via social media (#ConcertAcrossAmerica #EndGunViolence) and online at www.ConcertAcrossAmerica.org.

Two performances at the Firefish Festival

On Saturday, September 17, Angela Mitchell will give two different performances at the Firefish Festival in Lorain, Ohio. At 4:00 p.m. at 550 Broadway in Lorain, she and tenor Michael Knobloch will perform selections from Wildhorn and Bricusse's Jekyll & Hyde. The musical is being presented by French Creek Theater October 14-30, a production in which Ms. Mitchell sings the lead role of Emma. 

At 6:00 p.m. in the Black River Innovative Artist Residence, Ms. Mitchell will reprise a portion of Mostly Mozart: Diva Edition, a program presented previously by Great Lakes Light Opera on September 11. She will be joined by soprano Sabina Balsamo, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Woda, and pianist Ben Malkevitch. 

Role debut: Emma in "Jekyll and Hyde"

Angela Mitchell will play the role of Emma in Jekyll and Hyde, the classic tale by Robert Louis Stevenson brought to musical life by Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse. The show is being presented by French Creek Theatre at French Creek Nature & Arts Center in Sheffield Village, Ohio. There are nine performances, October 14-30: Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m.

Mostly Mozart with Great Lakes Light Opera

Angela Mitchell will return to Great Lakes Light Opera in two performances of "Mostly Mozart: Diva Edition." Angela, along with soprano Sabina Balsamo and mezzo-soprano Laura Best, will perform some of Mozart's greatest hits in this original production. There are two chances to see the show:

Role debut: Cinderella in "Into the Woods"

Angela Mitchell will make her role debut as Cinderella in Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, in a production by Lorain Community Music Theater directed by Ted Williams. There are five performances at the Stocker Arts Center:

Debut with the Akron Symphony

Angela Mitchell will make her debut with the Akron Symphony, serving as host and soloist in a pair of educational concerts. The program, called "Link Up: The Orchestra Sings," is in partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. Link Up pairs orchestras across the country with schools in their local communities. It’s a highly participatory program that invites students to learn about orchestral repertoire through a yearlong, hands-on music curriculum. The collaboration will culminate with two performances at the Akron Civic Theater on March 8, 2016 at 9:45 and 11:15 a.m. The concerts, hosted by Angela Mitchell, will provide students the opportunity to sing and play the recorder along with the Akron Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Assistant Conductor Jacob Sustaita. Students will perform music by Beethoven, Copland and Dvorak, and participate in a choreographed Latin-flavored piece called “Oye.” 

 

Joining Quire Cleveland

Angela Mitchell is the newest member of Quire Cleveland, Cleveland's professional choral ensemble. Their vibrant performance of choral music both ancient and new reveals the timeless humanity of this art form. Under the artistic direction of Ross W. Duffin, Quire performs nine centuries of a cappella repertoire.
